Brandon, I’m not sure what you’re asking me. If you’re looking for genealogical information about Phoebe Cram (?) and her possible connection to someone at Blood Cemetery, you can visit the Nashua public library and ask the reference librarian for help.
Regarding Vale End, I don’t visit it and I generally don’t review anything about it. I don’t think the problem at Vale End is a ghost. Others have speculated that it’s a South American entity, but I haven’t researched that; South American folklore is far removed from my field of study.
Dear, Fiona Broome
A group of friends and i went to vale end two nights in a row this week. the first night we went it was very calm and peaceful nothing really odd or sinister. we went to the grave of Mary Ritter/Spaulding. The second night is a different story. we all felt that something was wrong and we had planned to stay there awhile but then decided to just find the grave and go. while we were walking up the road we kept on hearing movement off to our left and behind us. my question is if the Grover is really there will it be there during the day cause we definetly felt something that night.
Quinn, I’m not sure if the entity or entities remain there during daytime hours. However, those who’ve felt the frightening energy generally report that the energy — perhaps residual — is there day and night… once they know what they’re looking for.
Hi, I’ve only had one experience with what appeared to be a ghost. It happened the day after my mother died . From the corner of my right eye I saw a large white gold tinged shape which for some inexplicable reason I mistook for my son who is darked tanned with black hair. I called out his name turned toward him (it). The figure vanished the same moment my son answered from another room.
I have also talked with a man who swore he had a conversation with his dead father. Another strange thing about that encounter is about a week earlier I had a dream about a man holding two small paint speckled figurines of Joseph and Mary, after I listened to him tell me about his father, he pulled out two paint speckled firgures of Joseph and Mary and told me that they miraclous ’survived’ a crushing machine without so much as a scratch. These two experiences are the last I’ve had.
My first three years of my childhood are riddled with such experiences. I remember the first time I saw a nuclear explosion on (TV ofcourse) I smiled and thought to myself “They think that’s a bomb.” I was three years old, but the the blast struck me as cute and primtive. I’m not making this up, I just don’t understand. Have you heard other stories like mine?
Thanks for your comments, Ray. I’m not sure how many people have had similar experiences, but I’m sure that many have. I couldn’t even count the number of people who’ve seen something odd out of the corner of one eye. That’s how most people seem to see apparitions.
Conversations with those who’ve passed… they’re not unusual, and they’re some of our most vivid encounters that affirm the reality of “the other side.”
Your childhood views of nuclear explosions are particularly intriguing. There are many explanations, and most involve time travel of one kind or another. I think we’ll hear more stories like this, now that quantum studies are revealing parallel worlds and the possibility of time travel through anomalies.
Personally, I like the idea that — for my next life experience — I can pick an era and planet to visit. Of course, it’d be a mistake to romanticize a time period and then realize the experience wouldn’t be fun, after all. However, I can see many reasons to choose a life experience in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Thanks for sharing that information!
Thank you for reading. I’ve had so many paranormal experiences and so few safe opportunites to share. I’d like to share more of my past if that’s possible. I promise I’m a ‘normal’ man. Having shelved all the odd inexplicable stuff I’ve managed to share a good productive life with my wonderful wife and two great kids inspite of the fact I’ve doubted my sanity and even humanity since I was a very small child.
Any way thanks again for the forum and the empathetic ear. It really means a lot. Ray
hi i need help with a certain ghost ( or something ) that has been following me since i can remember.. like 2nd grade. i have seen it countless times throughout my life and it always looks the same, a tall lean man who is like a 3D shadow that watches me while i sleep. i know i am not imagining this as 3 of my ex boyfriends have also seen him without me even telling them of my experiences. he usually tries to scare my boyfriends away by watching them while they sleep and making himself very visible. my current boyfriend hates to sleep over at my place as it has happened to him 3 times. each time he is petrified and wants all the lights on. i have told it to leave many times and hung mirrors everywhere. nothing works. please let me know how i can get him to leave me alone!
Hi Natalie,
I wish there was a way to put a restraining order on some ghosts! Unfortunately, they’re people like the rest of us… without a physical body in our universe, and a greater ability to travel, appear & disappear, as a result.
Consider that he may have a message for you. He may be an ancestor who is trying to protect you. He could be some version of a guardian angel or spirit guide. He’s not necessarily a malicious or mean spirit.
In your situation, I’d study my family tree and see if any names seem to “light up” for me. (As things do on the TV show, Psych.) Try that. Then, address him by name, out loud, and ask him to either remain invisible or not linger when you’re sleeping. Tell him that he’s scaring people, and ask him to show you some sign to indicate why he’s following you.
If that doesn’t work, I recommend getting some blessed talisman to place under your pillow. If you go to church, talk with your priest, pastor or minister about this.
We recently moved into an older home in SC (built in the 50’s). My daughter (13) “saw me” in the doorway of her room and asked what I needed. I was down the hall in my room. She has also seen this person walking down the hall toward her room several times (my daughter doesn’t sleep in there). We have 4 cats. one is hers. It has been getting out past two night and we cannot figure out how, and this morning she was stuck under the house in the crawl space. I had to open the locked crawl space door to coax her out. (no open vents or chimney flews)… Also, last night I was in her jack-and=jill bathroom and picked up a pencil in the doorway, laid it on her dresser (which is emaculately clean) and when I turned around, a plastic clothes hanger fell to the floor behind me. It must have been on the dresser, but I don’t think so. I didn’t think much more about that until I heard the cat crying from under the house this morning. Do you think our “ghost” is letting the cat out? She seemed terrified and walks around the house as if she has Turretts… just blurting out odd cries seemingly for no reason. Is it a poltergeist? is there someone we can contact in our area that won’t think we are nuts who can help us? I really like it here and have a long term lease, we don’t mind a ghost, I just don’t want it letting out the cat or scaring me.. I have enough to worry about! any help would be very much appreciated!
OK this is all happening fast, I just took a shower, and the cat is under the house again and a strange copper and stone RING appeared in the towel closet. Something is going on, we have to do some errands (we volunteer with the humane society) … please contact us back… it is starting to scare us…
thanks so much! i will try and look at a family tree.. it spooks me out to talk out loud to it but i will try that too. i dont think its a mean spirit either but i wonder what its message could be and how i would figure it out? hopefully i will soon so he can move on
Fiona,
I live in an apartment. And I have a ghost of a women in my apartment she doesn’t bother me but it bothers me and makes me very uneasy to stay home. How do I handle this stiuation. How do I help her move on and do I find out what she wants?
Thank you
Rae
Rae,
You can talk with your ghost just as you would any roommate. However, her replies — if any — may be difficult to understand. Mostly, it’s important to explain to her how you feel, and urge her to continue on her path to whatever’s next. If you know anything about her history, you might address her by name and refer to “heaven” if that’s appropriate.
This isn’t always an easy process, and you may need to find a way to be more comfortable with her there, until she’s ready to cross over.
I wish you the best of luck, and — if you need help — a local minister or psychic may be able to assist.
Sympathetically,
Fiona
Natalie,
Start with what you learn, and see how the pieces seem to fit together, logically. It may take time, but it will be worthwhile, I’m sure.
Ruthie,
What you’re describing may be a ghost, it may be a poltergeist, or it might be faerie activity. Most — but not all — of what you’ve experienced is more fae than ghostly. I recommend contacting a member of the TAPS family of investigators or a local (free) ghost hunting team.
I’d also find out what’s under your house. This kind of activity usually suggests that the house is on quartz, and is sort of a “lightning rod” for odd events.
In general, I wouldn’t worry about it.
For the cats, be sure there’s something iron (an iron — not stainless steel — tag, for example) on their collars. Faeries are notorious for bothering pets like that, and faeries usually avoid iron.
Ruthie,
The ring appearing confirms my suspicions that you’re dealing with faeries… perhaps in addition to ghosts.
Unless a spirit has a very important message to deliver, ghosts don’t usually leave presents for the living. That’s associated with faeries.
See if your public library has any faerie-related books by Katharine Briggs.
Most faerie literature portrays them as cute, winged creatures. That’s true of some faeries, but most of them are full-sized (like people) and full of mischief. Briggs’ books are accurate, and so are Brian Froud’s (yes, I know how odd that sounds).
Also, the site hasn’t been updated in forever, but check http://faeriemagick.com/believe/
I have encountered many things in my past.
I have read some of the previous comments and am intrigued by the studies you seem up on.
I was wondering if you knew that faeries tend to leave presents… what might be responsible for things seemingly magically disappear?
I’m not talking about losing something. Something lost or stolen is either found or enjoyed by another. I seem to have things, odd things vanish from time to time. Things in plain sight.
These things vanish overnight or within a few hours. Never to be found, through a move, carpet cleaning, ever, by anyone who would find it. Peculiar. I used to say I had Borrowers of my own, like the book.
Some things, need to be returned, one in particular. I am wondering what sort of entity I might be addressing to ask for it back??
Leah, regardless of the entity involved, speak out loud to it. Be polite. Explain why the item is important to you.
Then, expect it to reappear within a few days.
If that doesn’t work, after a few tries, start leaving iron nails around your home. Explain to the faeries (who don’t like iron) that you’ll happily remove the nails if they return what they took, and then find somewhere else for their mischief-making.
Hi Fiona. My question to you is have you ever encountered graveyard dogs in NH (or New England) and if so where? I have never seen one but out in Wilton(vale) one time i was there with my buddy and we encountered another group of people ghost hunting and we all heard howling at the left end of the cemetery. It could have been a coyote or wolf i guess but the sound of the howl went from one end of the left side to the other in 2-3 seconds with no rustling sounds or running (it was a late October night). It got louder and a little more aggressive sounding. And thats when everybody got in their cars and left! PS-This was before the sunset cerfew
Sean, I’ve never encountered graveyard dogs. However, it’s normal to have a good, snarling dog if you live near a cemetery. Cemeteries aren’t just visited by the bereaved and by ghost hunters. They’re also prone to visits by people who go there to drink, and by drug dealers and others who have a reason to want privacy.
There’s at least one house just down the hill from Vale End. Sounds tend to carry up, so you may have heard their dog racing around a lower part of the hill.
Or, it may have been something paranormal.
Vale End is a very weird place. Once it turns strange, it seems to get stranger with each visit. I won’t go back there.
Salutations,
I am with my friend who has some questions for you. I searched online and stumbled upon your website.
“For the past week and a half, there have been strange happenings such as odd noises (whispers, bangs footsteps, and shouting my name) emanating from my attic. I don’t usually do this, but I don’t know who else to turn to. There is a man, who we call, “El Indio” and he stopped by and told us it’s not the spirit of a little girl (as we have thought) but the spirit of a man. However, he also said he does not know if this “being” can shape-shift. He has order us to clean the floor and pick up any loose object so he can bless our home with Holy water. He said that a spirit can attach himself to an object if it’s not done properly. After we clean the house the bag of trash has to be given to the church.
My mother thinks it’s our recently deceased landlord. (who has always cared for us and had a problem with our attic because I live up there now) As stated before we think it’s a little girl, because my sister has heard the whispers that sound like a little child. Before my neighbors moved they reported encountering the presence of a young girl in their apartment.
I’ve gone though your website and have read the remedies to get rid of spirits, and I trully believe that our house has a visitor from the afterlife.
I am currently 18 (but have started college so I am away from home and living in a dorm), and my two sisters are 15 and 10. My youngest sister is acting really rebellious and creating strong imbalanced of energy in the home and I fear that has attracted this entity.
I am curious to know what is your take on my current situation. Am I paranoid? Is it our family’s wild imagination? Or can something truly other worldy be occuring in my home?”
Thank you for your time, We hope to hear from you soon.
Katherine,
My immediate reaction is: Watch out for “El Indio.” I’m always wary when someone has opinions that contradict what the residents have perceived, particularly when that person wants to come into the house and perform any kind of ritual. If it’s the parish priest you’ve known since childhood, that’s one thing; when it’s a string of somewhat weird advice (give the trash bag to the church…?), that’s a very different situation.
I believe that most poltergeist (literally: “noisy spirit”) phenomena are two-part. First, there’s the spirit who’s creating the effects, and then there’s the living person — a teenage girl in about 80% of the cases — whose emotional roller-coaster is providing the energy.
When it’s a poltergeist, it’s best to ignore the situation as much as possible, and figure that it’ll go away on its own. In the vast majority of cases, the poltergeist is not dangerous.
In the rare instance where it is an issue, getting counseling for the teenager is usually the best approach. If you can’t get help locally, Pete Haviland (of Lone Star Spirits in Texas) is experienced with poltergeist issues and he may be able to talk with you and your family about this.
However, rebellion is normal among teens, so your efforts should probably focus on how the rebellion is being acted-out via the spirit in the attic.
(It’s like dealing with someone who has an addictive personality: You may be able to get them to quit smoking cigarettes, but then they start chewing gum or overeating or shopping or…. Well, you get the idea. Your strategy will be most effective if you direct that person to a healthier addiction. In this case, it’s not an addiction, but the game plan is similar: You’re looking for a healthier, less upsetting way for that rebellious energy to be vented.)
Frankly, if it’s manifesting as noises from the attic… that’s no big deal. In most cases, if you treat the problem lightly and have patience, it will slowly (months) fade away. Now and then, the situation flares up with something more dramatic, but — as I said — if you look at it as a “side effect” of normal teenage emotions, the sources of the problem will usually find healthier and more commonplace ways to vent. Sports, music lessons, family outings involving hiking or skiing… these can be helpful to release stress and have less physical energy available for the spirit in the attic.
You’ll also be addressing the spirit who’s part of the problem. (Think of it as a “partner in crime” … in a non-criminal way, of course.) Treat what’s going on as if it’s a two-year-old having a temper tantrum. Acknowledge it at first — even talk at it, saying, “Okay, you have my attention. What can we do to resolve this?” (Remember, if it can shout your name, it can communicate clearly about its needs and wishes, too.) In at least 90% of the cases, the spirit pouts and never offers anything that will actually help the situation. He/she just wants attention.
After that, gradually increase how much you ignore the inappropriate behavior.
If your sister and others think the spirit is a little girl, it might be. You could research the history of the house and see if you can discover the identity of the spirit. Addressing it by its correct name, and acknowledging whatever happened to it in the past, could be the first step towards helping the spirit cross over.
That said, it’s still acting like a spoiled two-year-old. It’s accustomed to getting attention for inappropriate and disruptive behaviors. Generally, the best you can hope for is (1) get it to redirect its energy in less disruptive ways, and (2) wait for your sister to outgrow the need to vent normal teenage emotions.
Try this for awhile and see what happens. If you need more advice, let me know or contact Pete Haviland.

I have just booked the Govenor’s Suite at the Logde in Cloudcroft for Oct.31 2010. I would like to make the best of my time . I already have a great camera that has been picking up ghosts for about 6 months now. What’s the next piece of equipment I should purchase?
Hello Dee,
That’s great about your plans for October 31st!
Regarding equipment:
I’ll be talking about ghost hunting equipment in my podcast of February 26th (2010). I’ll start with free equipment and then talk about higher-priced tools.
Meanwhile, above the free/inexpensive level, I’d recommend a K-II meter (any version) or — if it’s in your budget — anything that sounds interesting from DigitalDowsing.com.
Cheerfully,
Fiona
Can i make contact with my son, The first thing that we thought of when my son was murder, was that he left us so fast, and he didn’t get to say goodbye , How would i know if he trying to tell me something
Rosalinda,
Generally, spirits do many things to let us know that they’re nearby. Usually, those signs are subtle, such as a TV turning itself on & off, or an image that you see out of the corner of your eye.
By encouraging the spirit (by talking out loud as if he’s physically right there), you can often make a stronger connection.
With patience, I’m sure that you’ll be able to feel your son’s presence, even if he’s not able to do anything more dramatic. From what I’ve seen among families who’ve lost a relative, spirits usually communicate with feelings of comfort or gentle guidance.
Trust your own intuition.
Sincerely,
Fiona
