hello fiona,
tonight i was in downtown dover taking pictures near the mill buildings. I recently found out about the fire
at the former mill in 1907 and heard it might be haunted. I thought it would be cool to go check out the building and take some pictures.

I took one picture of the bridge going over the cochecho right by the mill building and it has this green orb that is solid in the middle and has a green concentric ring around it. it appears to be about 10-12 feet off the ground and the larger green ring seems to be 5 feet or so in diameter. i was also about 400 feet away from the historical marker you state in the end of the article.

i would like someone to take a look at my picture who has some experience with this stuff. do you know of a good
website or anyone who could rule out or confirm my orb pic?

Rome,

Thanks for posting this. The "Salt Eye" story is always entertaining, and I'm fascinated when people report seeing him.

Cheerfully,
Fiona

Thank you, Mr. Hilton!

Though -- for the sake of expediency during a busy week -- I'm leaving the article as it was written, I'm glad that you brought this to my attention, and my readers'.

I'm always interested in the evolution of spelling, such as when Tyngsborough was popularly replaced with Tyngsboro, and so on.

Generally, I prefer the original spellings, as well.

Cheerfully,
Fiona

Just for the sake of accuracy, the settlement in Dover was spelled "Cochecho," as in the Cochecho Massacre of 1689. The misspelling "Cocheco" originated in the early 19th-century at the founding of the Cocheco Mills. Some scribe at the mill's incorporation in Concord got it wrong, and his mistake has caused confusion about the proper spelling ever since.
