clothing and ghost huntingIn this 2-minute podcast, Fiona talks about the clothing we wear when ghost hunting.

If you’re dealing with ghosts from a time or culture in which Christianity predominated, think about this:

It appears that some ghosts linger here because they’re afraid their sins were so great, they don’t deserve Heaven.

They’d rather remain here than face Hell.

If you died and you were waiting for someone to show up to guide you to your just desserts… would you willingly interact with someone dressed all in black?

As it says on some EVPs, your response might be, “Leave.  Get out. Go away.  Leave me alone.”

If all-black is your default wardrobe, you may want to reconsider that for ghost investigations.

  2. Fiona. You have raised a very importent subject. I listened to you podcast a while back and recently brought it to my team’s attention during our last meeting.

Our colors are black shirts, jackets, hats, etcetra, with white writting. I had the team listen to the podcast and we dicussed to afterwards. We came to the conclusion that wearing black is not the best idea. We donWe have voted on a color. don’t want all black or white, or red. We decided on a pink color to match our team name. More of a fushia with black letters. This will be a spendy change. I need to reorder all our garb in fushia with black letters. Our black garb can still be used when we are just out, interviewing clients, wear to school, anywhere but on a case. Hopefully we will get better results.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Thanks, PINK! Let me know if your results improve.

However, before making such a spendy change, you might first try everyday clothing that’s not black, and see if it helps at all. If it doesn’t, there’s no reason to order the new garb.

      Cheerfully,
      Fiona

  3. Sorry, Fiona.
I thought there was a next catagory for my next subject. In a podcast you’ve mentioned back in the day women did not wear slacks. Some ghosts may look down upon that. Every one of my girls wears jeans during hunts and investigations. Samantha used to wear mini skirts as she does everyday. She had an incident during a hunt a while back. I told her and all members to wear appropiate clothing for weather, bugs, snakes, ect. Mainly to protect their legs from getting cold, bitten, and/or scratched from low branches ect. Should I reconsider and allow dresses to be worn in older buildings, cemeteries, ect? I don’t want any harm to them due to the elements or spirits, but I need good results too.

    Thanks.
    Rich

    • Fiona Broome says:

      Hi Rich,

This is a very good question. Thanks for asking!

Safety is always our first concern, so if you’re in an area with lots of bugs, snakes, thorns, etc., leg protection is essential.

What you might test is a period costume, or something like one. Some women wore leggings or trousers under their gowns/dresses when they were hiking in wilderness areas. So, I see nothing wrong with putting a long-ish skirt (past knee length) over jeans, to create a similar effect.

See if it makes a difference. If it doesn’t… well, your ghosts are more open-minded than some I’ve encountered.

      Cheerfully,
      Fiona

      • Thank you, Fiona.

Now that Halloween is nearing, I think it may be our opportunity to start looking at costumes. We might even get a discount on dresses and other clothing from different periods at some of the “after Halloween sales”.

Wearing jeans under the dresses is a great idea.

        Rich.

        • Fiona Broome says:

          Rich,

          That’s a great idea about after-Halloween sales!

Also, if anyone on your team sews, look at easy sewing patterns for costumes. I’m not sure what the “tipping point” is to help a ghost feel comfortable — researcher John Sabol is probably the expert for that — but even the suggestion of a period costume might help.

          Cheerfully,
          Fiona

My ghosts wear many different kinds of pants. Depends on what they wore in real life. So do I. My shirt says “I LIKE TO HELP GHOSTS”. The most important thing is being able to communicate. I don’t think they pay much attention to what you wear. Did they in real life? I don’t particularly like the commercial (company) type gear. Ghosts probably can’t tell those folks from the mailman. Mine wouldn’t, anyway.
