My Wife and Myself have been going to Gilson for a number of years, she was doing her Geneology at the begining. Neither of us knew of the suposed hauntings going on at the time. We always experienced a heavyness in the air around the Cemetary. The description in you investigations of ” feels like walking through water” is very accurate.
So last summer, I took my 15 year old grand daughter for the first time to the cemetary, She has always been sensative to the paranormal, seeing Ghosts as a small child, vivid dreams of past happenings, etc.
As she got older they seemed to have gone int a remission of sorts. She was un aware of any haunted activity at the Gilson Cemetary. Imediately she felt as if she were grief stricken, but couldn’t see why, also she sead her legs seem to be held back ( her words) l”ike she was wading in knee deep water” too funny.
way too much coincidence. We took some pics, nothing was seen in the pics though.

Second visit to Gilson rd Cemetery with Grand daughter and her friend:
We were immediately drawn to the Left back corner, she sensed that there was something large coming toward us slowly; she said she sensed it was a horse, a large draft type horse. It stopped and stood next to me, I immediately felt cold air surrounding me, now this was around 3:30 pm last August a hot day, the woods were cool but what I felt gave me goose bumps and made me rub my arms. I couldn’t see my breath but it was definitely a temperature change. She also said that there was a man standing farther off in the woods, waiting for us to leave. We took pictures, nothing showed up, I tried to get some EVP with my cell phone. Which may have had something like a horse snorting, but the recording mysteriously disappeared from my phone (not a good EVP recorder). Just another strange day at Gilson rd Cemetery.
My ghost hunting group is planning an investigation of Gilson Rd Cemetery in the near future. I decided to take a ride out there Saturday July 26,2008 with a camera, digital recorder and microphone, and a Trifield Meter. I spent approximately 2 hours there between the hours of noon and 2pm. All the data I collected was negative; all photos negative; no EVP and I get EVP wherever I go it seems: no evidence of EMF. So, what the heck? I spent a lot of time in the back near the woods – no creepy feeling at all. I am wondering if we should even investigate this cemetery. Are we dealing with overactive imaginations here? Horses, apparitions?
I wrote the above comment and may just be retracting it. I am re-listening to the EVP recording I made and hear voices as well as growling. I will get back to you.
I was a Gilson during the day earlier this month. I took photos and performed EMF readings -all were negative. While near the woods area I said “Come on..don’t be a wimp…show youself”. When I returned home and listened to my digital recorder, my statement was followed by “Come back”. We, ParaPatrol, will retun to perform a night time investigation in the near future.
One of the things I’ve noticed in the cemetery is that there are no squirrels, birds, or anything around. We were being bothered by horseflies one day and when we got to the back left corner where the break in the wall is, the horseflies even disappeared. The moment we stepped away, they were back. Weird coincidence or something else? Either way it was very obvious. Something is definitely up with Gilson Road Cemetery.
My team, Parapatrol and I have been to Gilson a total of 3 times during the day. Each visit we have obtained paranormal evidence in either the form of EVP or photographs. With each subsequent visit the paranormal evidence seems to become stronger. As mentioned above, the first visit we obtained EVP “Please come back”. On the second visit we had a camera that would not auto focus on one occasion and speaking to the spirits, I said “Was that you causing the camera to be blurry.” The response was in the form of 5 separate EVP voices: 1st female voice: “That’s a silly question.”
2nd female voice: “Very stupid”
3rd female voice: “very stupid”
4th female voiice: “very stupid”
male voice: “very stupid”
We also obtained a photograph of a red thing in front of the stone wall. It has a tail as well. I hestiate to call it an orb bacuse this digital SLR camera never photographs “orbs”. I ma not sure what this anomaly is.
On the third daytime visit we also obtained a positive photo of ectoplasm which even casts a shadow on the ground. I have ruled out a dirty lens and the possibility of a tree limb in front of the lens. I feel this photo is quite significant. We will return to Gilson at the end of October for a nightime investigation. I have a strong feeling that we will obtain a great many paranormal photos. Stay tuned. http://www.parapatrol.org for the voices and the photos.
This is in response to wrkime’s comment regarding the lack of wildlife and birds in the cemetery. There is a chipmunk that I have seen on every visit in the right back corner of the cemetery.
In my post dated Oct 7, 2008 I wrote about a photo taken a Gilson that showed green mist and I was pretty sure it was not a tree branch. I sent the photo off for expert analysis and it showed that the photo was taken with telescopic lens which changes depth perception. In short, I removed the photo from the paranormal category to the “Debunked Photo” area on my website. I am not an expert in photo analysis and whenever I have the slightest doubt I send the photo for expert analysis.
Jayne, I’m not sure why depth perception matters. I mean, if it’s a green mist, it shouldn’t matter where it is… right?
On the other hand, if the analysis suggests that you’re actually looking at a tree branch, you’re absolutely right. It can’t be called an anomaly if there’s any reasonable doubt that it could be something normal.
Green mist is unusual, but we’ve seen a lot of it — with our eyes — especially over the Joseph Gilson stone. It’s a great, “Ghostbusters” slime-type green. Sometimes, we’ve seen it in other areas of the cemetery, and around the trees within about ten feet of the back wall. We’ve never seen it past that point.
Thanks for posting here! It sounds like you’ve been having some tremendous encounters at Gilson Road cemetery. It’s still one of my favorite places to research paranormal phenomena.
Phil, thanks for posting your experiences here. Keep us up-to-date on your ghost encounters. This is fascinating, and it confirms what many people discover at Gilson Road.
I was nodding enthusiastically when you said that it was just another “strange day” at Gilson Road cemetery. I think that sums up many of our visits.
The site is definitely strange!
Hi I have been to gilson almost every weekend at night this whole summer, have experienced a bunch of stuff. You can feel heaviness slowing you down when you step in the graveyard. the last time i went it felt very peaceful no heaviness or anything, nothing on camera, evp or anything seen. About mid august me my wife and our other 2 friends went and the heaviness feeling was the most we have ever felt, we got tons of orb photos, and white mist one i would like you to see Fiona, I tried to communicate with joseph gilson, nothing on EVP untill i asked him if he was sad that his children died, (probably wasn’t the best thing to say) and got a pretty good “GET OUT” on my recorder. Its mostly just the feeling you get when you go into that graveyard. Have also seen lights moving in the woods, standing still, and i even run up to catch them but when i get to the stone wall there gone, All 4 of us were standing together about two weeks ago in the middle of the graveyard and heard footsteps run by us one way then a second later run by the other way.
How very exciting, Kyle!
Other people have commented about the heaviness in Gilson being strongest in the summer months. I’m not sure why. We’ll have to research more of its history, in case we can find something that explains it as residual energy from the past.
The number one phrase that people seem to get as EVP at Gilson is “GET OUT!” So, I’m always interested when someone else records that, too. It’s usually pretty clear and a booming voice in some cases.
The footsteps are usually noted as Native Americans, running past the cemetery. The Gilson area seems to have been sort of the pre-Colonial equivalent of Gettysburg, but with Native nations battling each other. That’s documented even into the Colonial era.
The lights are among my favorite phenomena at Gilson Road cemetery. They’re bright, clear and look very real.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with us, and I hope to see you there next year, when the weather is warm enough to return for extended research!
I used to live in Nashua and would visit Gilson on an almost nightly bases back in 2006. Somebody mentioned it seemed like there was more activity in the summer and I believe it, that is when we caught most of our unexplained photos. We too have caught orbs, mist and a red streak similar to the purple one on this website. At the time we did not have an evp recorder so we used our voice memo recorders on our phones. My friend recorded an eerie screetching sound definitely a women. I typically ask permission and explain we mean no harm when walking into any graveyard and do the same before I take photo’s so not to disturb the spirits. After taking some photo’s I started recording on my phone and upon playback I hear the following: “its okay to take pictures…..(then very softly) it’s ok” It definitely sounded like a women’s voice.
We often heard what sounded like footsteps in the backwoods and it always seemed colder in the back left hand corner of the cemetery.
A trip to Gilson Rd Cemetery after Halloween revealed nothing out of the ordinary. (sort of) I got there about 7pm with my spiritually sensitive cousin and her boyfriend. I went to the back right hand corner of the cemetery and it simply got much colder. I wish I had a temp meter, but didn’t My cousin reported seeing something strange about the left hand side back corner wall of the cemetery. Nothing else happened that night, but I’m interested to see what other experiences people might have had.
We’ve gone to Gilson about 6 times from mid Oct. to mid Nov. mostly late afternoons, stayed about an hour each visit. My grilfriend had some personal experiences she was at the south end, and saw a shadow move down outside the wall on the far end
I mmediately started walking very fast to the north end, snapping pictures all the way to the wall. I had a strange feeling come over me, like the hair on the back of my neck standing on end and the air felt much cooler down that end. I looked over the wall and took more photos. I started walking back along the far wall, every 15 to 20 seconds I would turn and take anothor picture of the north wall. When I uploaded the photos to my PC I noticed I had taken 107 pictures. I looked them all over very carefully, nothing untill the one hundred and first photo! When I was walking away from the north wall and kept turning and taking picture101 theres a shadow figure looking over the wall. After seeing that picture, I wanted to get back tGilson ASAP On all the next vists I came away with many great photos of orbs, bright red eyes in the wall and a very bright streek over the wall.
Our last vist Gilson on Nov.11 was by far our best yet, I am convinced that I captured what I beleive to be a fullbodied apparition of a GHOST! It is one of the most creepist, scariest photos I have ever taken. I was standing towards the NW cornor of the cemetery and my girlfriend was walking towards me. She was about right in the middle when I took the photo. It was a very large bald man about 55 to 65 yrs. standing right behind her and somewhat above her his eyes looked closed or looking down. The figure appeared to be dressed in a black. As I am looking forward to my next visit to Gilson Road, I am not sure if my girlfriend is!!!
I went to Gilson Rd cemetary on Halloween night 2008 for the first time with my fiance. I thought it would be something different to do for a change. We parked across the street and walked across and sat on the front wall. It was very dark and hard to see unless a car went by. You could not even see any headstones at all. Although we didn’t experience anything directly and we looked hard into the darkness, I took about 15 pictures from left to right across the whole cemetary and then we rushed home and loaded them onto my laptop. Now I was able to see the headstones very clearly and the back wall in the distance.
There was a figure of a man walking from left to right between the trees behind the wall somewhere in the vicinity of the middle of the wall. I immediately saw it and my fiance confirmed that he saw it too. Another pic of the same area revealed nothing. Several orbs appeared on a few pics and on one pic, and after zooming in, there is a shooting light coming out from behind a headstone. You can see the tail. I cannot really read whose stone it is, but I plan to go back and look at some point during the day. There are also various lights appearing randomly around the cemetary, some around the stone wall areas. I want to go back sometime and walk thru as well as try to record voices. I don’t think my fiance wants to go tho, he was anxious to leave the first time……is there anyone local that would go with me that can help me get into paranormal experiences? I live in Nashua and would like to learn more.
Seabrezz : Is there any way to see these photos? They sound awesome! We were just there yesterday. No great photos, but a few strange EVPs!
kaypat123 : My photos are awesome thats why I not rushing to put them out on the internet, just yet. I may start a paranormal web site of my own. I will send one of my photos to Hollow Hill. This photo is not, one of my best but it is still prrety impressive.
On Sat. Nov.15 @ about 4:45 pm I was standing in the middle of the Gilson Rd. cemetery, calling Mr.Gilson to come stand beside me and have is photo taken with me.My son was taking the pictures. I even raised my right arm to sholder hight. I put my arm down turned to my left and started walking. Then my son took this picture, look whats in front of me! You decied.
Seabrezz, I recommend starting your own paranormal website. That’s one of the best ways to show the world your research results.
I’m very interested in your photos, whether you send one to me or tell me a link where I can see your photos, online.
Weather permitting, I’m planning to take photos at Gilson on Friday, November 28th around 4:15 p.m., just before sunset. (If it’s bitterly cold, or raining or snowing, I won’t be there.)
In case anyone’s driving a distance to meet at Gilson today (Nov 28th), it’s snowing where I am and rain is predicted around Nashua for the rest of the day.
I won’t be there. Even if the sun appears, there’s enough moisture on the ground to make photos unreliable.
Hi everyone, I was excited about my pics at Gilson so I went back during the daytime with a ghost hunting friend on Nov 27. It was overcast and cool, kind of like a typical fall day. It was my first time walking into the cemetery. I forgot my camera, but I had my digital voice recorder, and I placed it in the middle of the back wall, surrounded by rocks and left it there for about 40 min. During that time, I observed all of the headstones and walked behind the stone wall to the back of the woods. There is another stone wall way in the back, but nothing unusual was experienced. I left after 45 min and listened to my recording on my laptop. There is ALOT of activity! Unexplained sounds around the recorder make it sound like there is someone moving around it, like chopping wood. I picked up whispers saying “go home”, “shhhhh”, and “get to work”! Also, during the time I was walking behind the cemetery, alot of wind picked up on the recorder, like I was disturbing something, and it then subsided when I got back into the cemetery. I am going to analyze this with some audio filtering to try and see if there is more than this. I’m hooked now, this was GREAT! I must say tho, I doubt I’ll walk back behind the cemetery again….lol
Seabrezz….how can I see the pic that your son took??
kathyk36… Thanks for the intrest in my photos. My family and friends that have seen my paranormal photos,on my PC. They where so amazed and impressed with them, that I’m in the process of building my own website. To post them on for everyone to see.
I emailed the one of the photos that my son took at Gilson, to Fiona. She emailed me back, saying how impressed she was with it.
I told her that she could post it on Hollow Hill for her readers to view. So in the mean time I will post it on Hollow Hill when my website is up and running. Sometime in early 2009.
Though I’d like to use the best stories and photos in a book that I’m compiling about Gilson’s ghosts, we generally don’t post others’ photos at HollowHill.com. That’s on the advice of our attorneys, and it’s about copyright issues.
That said, we’re working on integrating a photo section at Hollow Hill, where readers can upload their best photos and a slideshow will display the best and most current.
That’s among our plans for 2009.
Thanks Seabrezz…I also have an interesting pic taken Halloween night 2008. It was pitch black out and I sat on the front wall and took pics into the darkness. One of my pics has a ghostly shadow at the back wall looking like it’s walking from left to right…..the next pic of the same spot showed nothing….I can’t wait to see yours…..Kathy
I went to gilson rd cemetery this afternoon around 4 ish. I experanced nothing paranormal. it was just a small beautiful cemetery. It could use a little TLC though.
ParaPatrol finished analyzing photos/EVP/video etc from our night investigation on Oct 25th 2008. You may view it at http://www.parapatrol.org. Fiona, you may also see that green “mist” photo under debunked photos. I went back to the site n the daylight to recheck my position when I took that photo . There are no trees hanging over the side wall to my right. I was far away from that wall. I used a telescopic lens which should narrow the field not widen the field. Let me know what you think – does it look like the green mist you captured?
Our Paranormal Team has been to Gilson Road Cemetery many times. Our first visit there as we were walking into the cemetery I took a picture that had a red streak through it also in the lower part of the picture a greenish blue mist appears to be comming from the headstones there. we also capture EVPs. One was a gruff female voice saying “Help” we also have one that sounds like digging is going on. On our last visit there a few months ago we sat one of our voice recorders on the big boulder as we walked around. All the sudden on of the team members ask why the light was blinking on the recorder. I looked and it wasn’t , so we snap a few picture in that direction. After reviewing the pictures it appears something was playing with the recorder light. These photos can be seen on our website SilentWhispersParanormalSociety.Com. We have had much paranormal activity while visiting Gilson cemetery. It is one of our favorite place to go.
