smilinggirl75Readers often ask me if there’s an ideal age for ghost hunters, or if ghosts are more receptive to young people.

In my opinion, age is rarely important.  What makes a difference is how receptive the (living) person is.

Some researchers have hectic lives.  In many cases, they need at least a few minutes to unwind before they can focus on ghosts and paranormal phenomena.

Often, it’s about optimism.  Two researchers may have the same problems, but if one can cheerfully say to himself, “I’ll think about that later,” he’s more likely to be sensitive to spirits.

worried-255He’s more in-focus than the researcher who’s waiting for a call about the house she’s trying to sell.

Likewise, the team member with a report due tomorrow, may not be as sensitive as a researcher who’s on vacation.

Some people crack under pressure.  Others thrive on deadlines.

For some people, an overdue library book is a crisis.  Others let each day take care of itself.

Age may affect a person’s outlook and how seriously he or she takes problems.  However, there will be many exceptions.

In my opinion, focus is the biggest factor.  How many concerns are weighing on the researcher?  Can he or she put aside the events of the day, to notice every nuance of energy in a haunted place?

nola-chincem1-illusI believe that everyone can perceive ghosts and paranormal energy.

The more you can focus on the present moment and trust your perceptions, the greater your sensitivity to — and perhaps rapport with — the spirits.

That’s not determined by age, but by attitude.

We do have underage members on our team. As you said, we need parental release form which is very important. Most of our underage members 13 and under is a big help. They help with raising funds such as fundraising, rumage sales, car washes, etc. They also learn by helping us go through our evidence such as video’s, EVP’s, and photos. They will not be on any hunt or investigation. 14 and 17 year olds will accompany us during hunts such as cemeterys, and other public sites. Our adult members, 18+ will conduct public hunts and private home, business investigations. Each member, no matter the age is very important and a great asset to our team.

I don’t know whether you will see this Rich, being a year after your post. What you are doing is really great. and your younger members by the time they make the investigator age will probably know more then you do.. On top of that they will also have a lot more respect for the living. Humans and animals. i hope other groups take a bit of extra time to do what you do. I notice one group is having ghost hunting for kids 101. When a kid expresses a desire to learn something useful, let them. In the long run it will keep them out of trouble. Kids have dreams and goals, too. Encourage them. Don’t try (or force) them to do what you want them to do. Education is necessary, yes. Their mind and life is their own. Ghost hunting is enormously educational. Look at Fiona. One brilliant gal!
