Here are answers to the most popular questions about Hollow Hill’s free courses:
1. Is this course really free?
Yes, it is. We firmly believe that more research can lead to better answers about ghosts and hauntings. So, we’re eager to provide basic ghost hunting information, free of charge.
Read the lessons and listen to the MP3s online at the Introduction to Ghost Hunting free course pages. Download the PDFs for offline reading, too.
Everything’s free!
2. How long is the course?
The introductory course includes four lessons. Each one is designed to take about a week.
How quickly you complete them will depend on:
- How much time you have for your research.
- If you’ve had prior experience with ghosts and haunted places.
- How aggressively you want to study each lesson.
- How much you’ve learned from books, friends, TV shows, movies, documentaries, ghost tours, related events, and so on.
3. I was in the middle of the email version of the course. What should I do now?
The online version of the course is exactly the same as the one you were receiving by email.
Go to our ghost hunting course Welcome page and scroll down to the last lesson you’d received. Click on the next lesson, and continue.
4. When will I get my certificate? Does this make me a certified ghost hunter?
After completing the fourth lesson, you can click on the Ghost Hunting Course Certificates link and download either (or both) of the free certificates.
You may fill in your name with any software that can modify a PDF. Or, you can print the certificate and add your name by hand, or in calligraphy.
We recommend that you print the certificate on high-quality, parchment style paper. It can be an impressive addition to any display of credentials.
However, the word “certified” only means that you have a certificate. There are no official licenses for ghost hunting. Avoid anyone who wants to charge you money to become “certified” or “licensed” in this field.

5. Will there be more courses?
Yes, Fiona is working on new online courses right now.
Fiona’s books also include more advanced information. After the Introduction to Ghost Hunting course, we recommend Ghost Hunting in Haunted Cemeteries: A How-To Guide.
6. How often do you update this course?
The basic concepts of ghost hunting haven’t changed since the first ghost investigation around the 2nd century.
However, ghost hunting tools, trends and methods change constantly.
One week, it’s loosening flashlight connections for real-time ghost communication. The next, it’s a new EMF tool or a new motion detector.
It’s nearly impossible to stay 100% current. We try to keep the course materials current. They’re usually updated about once a year.
7. Can I attend Fiona’s courses, offline?
Because Fiona is busy conducting on-site research and writing books, she rarely teaches offline.
In the future, Fiona may teach individual workshops through shops and at events. However, except for her annual Dragon*Con workshops, and supplementary classes for past students, she has not scheduled any new classes.
8. Can I go ghost hunting with Fiona Broome or Hollow Hill?
Generally, the Hollow Hill research team is an informal group of Fiona’s associates and some former students. Those investigations are by invitation only.
However, from time to time, Hollow Hill sponsors open events to meet new ghost hunters. They are usually free and there is no waiting list; watch HollowHill.com for announcements.
